Elle Massimo Opens a Bold New Chapter With "RIP My Heart Out"

The London artist returns with a fearless first look at her upcoming sophomore EP.

Some songs arrive quietly. Others kick the door down.

On "RIP My Heart Out," London based artist Elle Massimo does the latter, delivering a sharp, emotionally charged return that embraces heartbreak, betrayal, and the strange sense of freedom that comes from finally laughing at the things that once broke you.

Released as the first single from her upcoming sophomore EP, "RIP My Heart Out" marks the beginning of a new creative era for Massimo. Following the success of her debut project RED SKIES IN THE DISTANCE, the new single finds her pushing her songwriting further than ever before, leaning into bigger emotions, bolder imagery, and a willingness to let the drama unfold.

A New Beginning

While building material for her second EP, "RIP My Heart Out" quickly revealed itself as the song that would set the tone for everything that followed.

"'RIP My Heart Out' was one of the first ideas that really stuck with me when I began sessions in spring 2025," Massimo tells Everyday Jams. "The hook just came out of me so quickly. The producer Amelia started playing this really naughty drum loop and it all clicked."

The song's unapologetically dramatic title and visceral lyrics opened new creative doors.

"It gave me permission to have more fun with my writing and take it to new places," she says. "I thought let's honour this song and give her the intro spot."

Fresh Wounds

At its core, the track was born from a moment of betrayal.

Massimo wrote the song shortly after someone she deeply trusted let her down, capturing the immediate confusion and hurt that followed.

"I wanted to encapsulate the way I felt at that raw stage," she explains. "The feeling of fresh wounds taking up space on your skin and desperately wanting them to scab over quicker."

What makes the song compelling is the perspective woven through the pain. While the emotions were very real when the song was written, time has allowed her to view those moments differently.

"I love how ridiculous the lyrics in the hook are now when I listen back," she says. "You really do feel so cut open in those moments after being betrayed by someone you had such an affinity for. Once that attachment fades, you can laugh about it and poke fun at yourself for ever being so caught up in it all."

Writing Without Fear

Over the last few years, Massimo's approach to songwriting has evolved alongside her growing confidence as an artist.

When she began writing her debut EP in 2023, much of her energy was focused on finding collaborators and proving herself in new rooms. Today, the process feels entirely different.

"Now I go into sessions excited," she says. "Feeling curious about what the day has in store."

Rather than worrying about whether every session produces something extraordinary, she has learned to trust the process and prioritize honesty above everything else.

"The number one priority now in my songwriting is to be as honest as possible," she says. "I remind myself that I'll have to sing these words live at some point, so don't write anything you wouldn't be proud to sing to a room of strangers."

That honesty has become one of the defining characteristics of her work. Whether she is writing about heartbreak, resilience, or personal growth, her songs never feel filtered.

Blood and Oxblood

Every Elle Massimo release seems to arrive with its own visual language, and "RIP My Heart Out" may be her most vivid yet.

When asked what imagery comes to mind when she thinks of the song, her answer is immediate.

"Colour would absolutely be oxblood red with a dark teal coming in second."

From there, the vision becomes increasingly cinematic.

"I think of a Walking Dead style, apocalyptic, Hills Have Eyes kind of setting. Zombies, deserts, derelict buildings, guts and gore."

It is a striking contrast to the polished visuals surrounding the release, yet it perfectly reflects the emotional intensity at the heart of the song. There is messiness, destruction, and chaos, but there is also a sense of playfulness running through it all.

Looking Ahead

"RIP My Heart Out" serves as the first glimpse into a sophomore EP that promises to explore the full spectrum of healing.

"We are covering quite a few bases emotionally," Massimo says. "There's heartbreak, anger, defeat whilst holding space for acceptance, resilience and lots of growth."

The project follows the journey of moving through pain rather than around it, allowing space for every stage along the way.

"The EP is all about letting yourself be in whatever emotion you find yourself in and moving through each of those without shame."

For Massimo, even a song built around heartbreak ultimately circles back to optimism.

When asked what she hopes listeners take away from "RIP My Heart Out," her answer is simple.

"I hope they take away the feeling of hope."

It is that balance between vulnerability and resilience that makes the single such an exciting introduction to this next chapter. "RIP My Heart Out" may begin with betrayal, but it ends somewhere much more powerful: the understanding that pain is temporary, growth is inevitable, and one day you'll look back and laugh at what once felt impossible to move past.
