Frankie June Finds Comfort in Connection on "Make It Through June"

The singer songwriter's latest single transforms friendship, uncertainty, and longing into one of the season's warmest releases.

Some songs begin with heartbreak. Others begin with a misunderstanding.

Frankie June's new single, "Make It Through June," started with a feeling many people know all too well: the fear that someone you care about is quietly drifting away.

Released just as summer begins, the track carries an easy warmth that feels perfectly suited for open windows, long walks, and afternoons spent with the people who make life feel a little lighter. Beneath that warmth, though, is a story about friendship, loneliness, and the questions we ask ourselves when someone suddenly feels further away than they used to.

The Question

"I started writing this song when I felt like a friend of mine was pulling away," Frankie tells Everyday Jams.

As the song came together, Frankie realized she had misread the situation entirely.

"By the time I wrote the second verse, I realized I was totally off base," she says. "I guess the song is a bit about that sort of uncertainty we can often feel in friendships and the question we often ask ourselves: 'Do they really like me?'"

What makes "Make It Through June" resonate is that it never stays stuck in that uncertainty. Instead, it moves toward something softer and more hopeful. The song is not about losing someone. It is about wanting connection and choosing to believe in it anyway.

The Feeling

From the beginning, Frankie knew exactly how she wanted the song to feel.

"I really wanted it to sound warm, and simple in a comforting way," she says. "Like a bowl of chicken soup, or a blue sky and some grass to lay on under the sun."

That feeling runs throughout the track. While the verses carry a sense of longing, the chorus opens everything up. The song begins to feel less like a reflection and more like an invitation.

"I want it to be like a warm blanket or a hug from a friend," she says.

It is a fitting description. "Make It Through June" feels like the kind of song that quietly encourages you to text someone you've been meaning to call, make plans without overthinking them, or spend an afternoon outside with nowhere important to be.

The Sound

While Frankie June's songwriting has always blended vulnerability with sharp observation, this release explores a slightly different sonic space.

"I actually think this song is a departure from my usual sound," she says. "It definitely still works in the sonic world I've created, but the production and overall vibe is a lot more folk and adult contemporary than recent releases."

The jazz influenced elements that have become part of her signature style are still present, but they sit inside a more laid back framework that allows the storytelling to take center stage.

"One of my friends said the genre is 'whatever Colbie Caillat is,'" Frankie laughs. "That made me realize the laid back vibe of this track means it works well in jazz bedroom pop playlists like the other songs, but it could also fit in a folk or adult contemporary context."

The Studio

That sense of ease carried into the recording process as well.

"We recorded this very quickly because we wanted it to have a raw feeling to it," Frankie explains.

One of the song's most memorable moments arrives immediately with its a cappella opening, a creative choice Frankie fought to keep.

"I was pretty adamant about the a cappella opening and Jacob fought me at first, but now we both love the final product."

The result feels intimate and unguarded, pulling listeners directly into the song before the instrumentation even arrives.

The Takeaway

Although "Make It Through June" began with a specific experience, it eventually became about something much bigger.

Growing up homeschooled, Frankie spent much of her childhood immersed in music, often turning to piano and singing during periods of loneliness. That lifelong search for genuine connection still finds its way into her songwriting today.

When asked what she hopes listeners take away from the song, her answer is simple.

"A reminder to be a good friend."

It is a small sentiment, but one that feels especially meaningful in a world where genuine connection can sometimes feel harder to find.

"Make It Through June" also arrives at the beginning of another creative chapter for Frankie. Next up is a collection of jazz standards featuring just her vocals and longtime collaborator Jacob on guitar. Inspired by the songs they naturally find themselves playing at gatherings, the project will roll out throughout the summer and fall, beginning with "There Will Never Be Another You."

Before then, Frankie will bring this new chapter to the stage at Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles on July 15, where she'll perform alongside Chelsamina. The show arrives just weeks after the release of "Make It Through June" and offers fans an opportunity to experience these songs in a live setting.

For now, though, "Make It Through June" stands as a reminder that some of life's most meaningful relationships are also the simplest. Sometimes all it takes is a walk through the park, a shared afternoon, or a friend willing to stay.

Stream "Make It Through June" now on all major platforms, and if you're in Los Angeles, catch Frankie June live at Hotel Cafe on July 15 as she continues this exciting new chapter.
