In Rotation: YiiiNKA — “famous ☆”

There’s something immediately easy to like about YiiiNKA’s “famous ☆.” The track has that loose, guitar-led indie charm that brings a little beabadoobee to mind, but the groove underneath it keeps things from ever feeling too familiar. It’s playful, slightly off-center, and the kind of song that seems to get better the more time you spend with it.

Released August 12, “famous ☆” marks the first single from YiiiNKA’s solo project, and it already feels like a strong introduction. There’s personality all over the production without the song trying too hard to prove itself: a warm guitar presence, an unexpectedly addictive rhythm, and vocals that sit comfortably inside the track rather than fighting to be the biggest thing in it.

At just over two minutes, “famous ☆” gets in, finds its pocket, and leaves before the idea wears itself out. It’s exactly the kind of early release that makes us curious about where an artist might take things next.
