Your Pretty Face Talk "CRASHOUT," Building a World, and Letting Emotion Lead
From the beginning, British Estonian duo Your Pretty Face have treated every release like another piece of a much bigger picture. The music, visuals, cryptic campaigns, abandoned buildings, QR codes scattered across Europe. None of it exists separately. Every decision pulls listeners deeper into a universe where vulnerability isn't hidden away. It's embraced.
Their latest single, "CRASHOUT," continues to expand that world.
Built around distorted synths, pounding percussion, and emotionally charged vocals, the track transforms anxiety, frustration, and emotional overload into something strangely exhilarating. It's music that invites you to scream, dance, and process everything all at once.
We caught up with the duo over email to talk about following emotion instead of strategy, creating music that belongs equally in a club and a breakdown, and why world building has become just as important as the songs themselves.
Following the Feeling
Listening to "CRASHOUT," it almost feels like a deliberate turning point for the band. In reality, they say the song came from something far less calculated. It was simply the most honest thing they could make.
"We actually made 'CRASHOUT' first, but the excitement was more anger," they explain. "It wasn't a calculated shift into our sound. It was more, 'We're broke and not going anywhere right now. We have to put our hearts on our sleeves to progress.'"
That mindset gives the song its urgency. Nothing feels manufactured. Every synth hit and vocal carries the weight of real frustration while somehow remaining incredibly addictive.
Even with such heavy subject matter, rhythm always comes first.
"We always start with the beat," they say. "No matter what the vocals are doing, the music is hitting and keeping the pace. We try our best to make our vocals as catchy and raw as possible. Heavy production and emotionally charged vocals, so you can dance or cry to the music... or both."
It's exactly what makes "CRASHOUT" work. The song never asks listeners to choose between catharsis and movement. It gives them both.
Honesty Over Perfection
One thing that stands out across Your Pretty Face's catalog is their willingness to say the uncomfortable thing without taking themselves too seriously.
"It's hard to be vulnerable without being cringe," they admit. "Not even to other people, but yourself. Sometimes you listen back to a demo and think, 'Who tf would say that?' Instead of fully changing the message, we switch it to something more lighthearted."
"It's good to laugh when you're going through it."
That balance between sincerity and self awareness gives the project its personality. The songs never feel overly polished emotionally. They're messy in the same way real life is messy.
The duo describe "CRASHOUT" as documenting a period where they were dreaming far beyond the reality they were living.
"We were manifesting the life we want while physically living a life we struggle in. That's basically the entire meaning behind 'CRASHOUT.'"
That tension between aspiration and reality sits at the heart of the single, making it feel surprisingly relatable beneath all of its explosive production.
Building a World Beyond the Music
If you've followed the rollout surrounding Your Pretty Face, you'll know the music is only part of the experience.
From cryptic visuals to immersive campaigns, everything feels intentional.
"This is one of the most important elements of making and putting out music," they tell us. "We didn't wanna just drop a song with a picture and lip sync in our bedroom. From the start, we've always put the visuals and the world building first, so we know exactly where the listener will be when they're listening to Your Pretty Face."
That commitment extends to the production itself.
"It wouldn't sound right if these songs were polished alternative songs," they explain. "Alongside the topics and stories of the music, it just makes so much sense to keep the sound as raw and unfiltered as the meaning behind them."
Their visual language mirrors that philosophy.
"The best way to explain this is how we used this idea in 'CRASHOUT.' We made breaking furniture in an abandoned house look ethereal, or made a real life story of chasing your dream feel like a car crash sonically. We don't want to be overly performative, but we also want there to be life and strong aesthetics within our releases."
It's an approach that makes every release feel immersive long before you press play.
The Next Chapter
As anticipation builds toward their upcoming EP, Your Pretty Face aren't interested in standing still.
"Listeners can expect a bigger world to be in and more hits to bang their heads to," they say. "With every drop, we evolve, and we're genuinely so excited to share the next part of this journey with our supporters."
More than anything, they hope the music reminds listeners they're not alone.
"We hope the listener feels inspired to make their dream a reality just like we're trying to do. We hope they feel comfort knowing someone else is going through the same thing and having the same thoughts as they are."
"And ofc, we hope they think our music bangs!"
That last line sums up the project surprisingly well. Underneath the immersive visuals, underground club energy, and distorted electronics is something deeply human. Your Pretty Face aren't chasing perfection. They're documenting what it feels like to keep moving forward even when life feels uncertain.
"CRASHOUT" captures that feeling with remarkable honesty while proving that vulnerability doesn't have to be quiet. Sometimes it arrives through blown out synths, massive hooks, and a beat loud enough to shake the room.
