Carver Jones Talks "WOMAN, MY LADY," Romanticism, and Letting the Song Lead
With every release, Carver Jones follows whatever feels honest. That instinct has quietly become the foundation of one of the most exciting catalogs emerging from Nashville.
Across releases like "BEST FRIEND," "SIGN OF THE TIMES," and the AMERICAN DREAMERS series, Jones has built a body of work that refuses to sit inside one genre. Neo soul, jazz, indie rock, folk, R&B, and hip hop all coexist naturally, held together by expressive songwriting and a voice that always feels unmistakably his own. His newest single, "WOMAN, MY LADY," might be his clearest statement yet.
We caught up with Carver over email to talk about the new single, building songs from imagination instead of memory, and why his upcoming EP 8 feels like the beginning of his freest creative chapter yet.
Writing Toward Love
"WOMAN, MY LADY" carries an effortless warmth. It's romantic without leaning on clichés, tender without feeling overly sentimental. Interestingly, the song wasn't inspired by someone who was already in his life.
"I think I was writing in a way where the girl wasn't in the room with me," Carver explains. "In fact, she wasn't even in my life or real, so I think that took the pressure off of me to just say what I wanted."
That freedom shaped the entire song. One lyric in particular became the turning point.
"I think the line, 'I'm coming back brand new every time you spin the dial on me,' opened the world up for me to understand that it was a love song about love, not about one person. It basically says when love comes calling, sure I'll try again every time."
That openness is what gives the track its emotional pull. Rather than telling one specific story, Carver leaves enough room for listeners to step into it themselves.
Creating Worlds Instead of Chasing Genres
One of the most compelling parts of Carver's music is how cinematic it feels. Every song seems to exist inside its own world long before it's finished.
"Most times if I'm making a song I really love, I start watching a music video in my head," he says. "I start creating the worlds and looking around in that. I'll usually find the next line there."
That visual approach naturally extends into his sound. Instead of worrying about fitting into a particular lane, he follows instinct.
"I think just doing exactly what I want and playing into my influences and putting them all together," he says. "I also think just simply understanding my voice and how I speak in music."
It's an approach that makes "WOMAN, MY LADY" feel timeless. Soulful guitars, jazz textures, indie songwriting, and laid back grooves all blend together without ever feeling forced because they're all serving the same emotional purpose.
Living in the Middle
Over the last few years, Carver has toured the country, continued expanding his catalog, and steadily built momentum as both a songwriter and performer. That growth has come with its own lessons.
"I've learned to live in the middle," he says. "I think high highs can really alter your perspective and same with low lows. At this stage in my career both come in waves, but living in the middle and facing the music has been what I think makes it so much easier."
That mindset also defines his upcoming EP, 8. The project explores freedom, movement, and renewal during a period of life that feels full of change.
"I'm 23 now. I think I'm at this age where I'm turning from a kid to an adult that has to deal with real love and rent and everything else that age brings. I feel my brain changing every day, and I think that really aligns with 8 and what that number means."
There is a quiet confidence in the way Carver talks about this chapter. He isn't trying to chase expectations or recreate what's worked before. He's simply allowing himself to grow alongside the music.
Always Following the Spark
Ask Carver what he hopes never changes about the way he creates, and his answer comes quickly.
"I hope I always sit down with a guitar and have this super excited and consuming spark that allows the song to come to me in what feels like 28 minutes but it's actually five hours."
That sense of curiosity has become one of the defining qualities of his music. Every release feels like another page in an ongoing scrapbook, documenting where he's been while quietly pointing toward wherever he's headed next.
"WOMAN, MY LADY" captures an artist embracing possibility rather than certainty. It's heartfelt, beautifully imagined, and another reminder that some of the most memorable songs come from following whatever feels honest.
