SOFIIA Talks "Off My Mind," Reinvention, and What Comes Next

A Song That Quieted the Noise

When we caught up with the singer-songwriter over email, she kept returning to the same idea: for the first time in a long time, she felt certain about the direction she was heading. After years of performing, relocating, rebuilding, and questioning what came next, "Off My Mind" became the song that cut through the noise.

"Writing 'Off My Mind' felt like a leap into the unknown," she told Everyday Jams. "But at the same time it came with a powerful feeling of, 'This is me.' Through this song, I found my identity and my sound."

That sense of certainty is what makes the single so compelling. "Off My Mind" carries the warmth of classic soul and R&B while still feeling entirely her own. The production gives the song room to breathe, but it's SOFIIA's voice that pulls you in. There is power in it, but also a softness that makes every lyric feel lived in.

Returning to What Felt Natural

One thing that kept coming up while talking with SOFIIA was how often she found herself circling back to the music she loved before any of the industry expectations entered the picture.

While living in Los Angeles, she spent nights performing at jazz jams around the city, singing songs by artists she grew up admiring. Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston, and Aretha Franklin all found their way back into her life during that period.

"I kept finding myself in the right place at the right time," she said. "Singing the music I've loved since childhood."

It wasn't some grand plan. It was simply reconnecting with music that made her feel something.

Then came a songwriting session with producer Finn Matthews. During the session, he asked a simple question.

"Why don't you make this kind of music too?"

The idea stuck.

Listening to "Off My Mind" now, it feels like the answer to that question. Not because it sounds like any of those artists, but because it carries the same emotional honesty that first drew SOFIIA to music in the first place.

Choosing Herself Again

The story behind "Off My Mind" is about much more than a relationship.

At its core, it's about self trust.

Before arriving at this chapter, SOFIIA found herself navigating one of the most difficult periods of her life and career. There were moments when she questioned everything, including whether she wanted to continue making music at all.

"I came very close to giving up everything," she admitted.

What followed wasn't a sudden breakthrough. It was a gradual shift in perspective. She began focusing less on what wasn't working and more on what still brought her joy.

"I became more grateful and started noticing the positive things in life instead of focusing on the negative."

That growth is woven throughout the single. While "Off My Mind" touches on heartbreak and longing, it never feels stuck there. Instead, it feels like the sound of someone learning how to move forward.

"The song is about heartbreak, pain, and overthinking," she said. "But it's also about acceptance."

That balance is part of what makes the track resonate. It acknowledges the messiness of life without trying to neatly tie everything together.

What Comes Next

"Off My Mind" is also the first glimpse into SOFIIA's upcoming EP, a project she describes as a journey back to her true self.

As we spoke, it became clear that the project isn't built around one influence or one moment. It's the culmination of everything she's carried with her for years.

Russian pop music. Jazz standards. Elvis Presley. Dostoevsky. Tolstoy. A lifelong dream of creating music in English. All of it finds a place within the world she's building now.

"I think this EP is where all of those influences finally come together," she told us. "That's who I really am."

What struck us most is that "Off My Mind" doesn't feel like a reinvention at all. It feels like someone finally giving herself permission to stop chasing an idea of who she should be.

For SOFIIA, that may be the most important milestone yet.

And if "Off My Mind" is any indication, she's exactly where she's supposed to be.

Stream "Off My Mind" now and keep an eye out for SOFIIA's debut EP, arriving later this year.
