Naylon Talks “Kiss Me In The Same Way,” Finding Her Way Home, and Creative Freedom
After an unexpected return to Nebraska, the Los Angeles-based artist rediscovers her creative independence and brings her latest single to life with the people who helped her find her footing.
For Naylon, “Kiss Me In The Same Way” began during a period when almost everything in her life was changing.
After spending five years in Los Angeles, the singer-songwriter found herself back in her hometown of Omaha, Nebraska, following the 2025 California wildfires. Displaced from her apartment and separated from many of her usual collaborators, she began spending late nights writing alone.
What emerged was a song about familiarity, connection, and the people who can make you feel like yourself again, no matter how much time has passed.
“When I started writing ‘Kiss Me In The Same Way,’ I was in a major transitional stage in my life,” Naylon tells Everyday Jams.
The inspiration came after an evening catching up with an old friend. That encounter reminded her how certain relationships can bring us back to a familiar feeling, even as life takes people in different directions.
The song came together quickly, but its story was one she hadn't explored quite like this before.
Finding Her Way Back
Returning to Nebraska wasn't part of Naylon's original plan, but the time away from Los Angeles gave her something she hadn't realized she needed: room to trust herself again.
After years spent collaborating with producers and songwriters, she had gradually become less comfortable creating independently.
“When I first started creating music, I spent the first few years writing entirely by myself, and that's something I had gradually lost touch with after moving to LA,” she explains.
Back home, she began reconnecting with that earlier version of herself. The experience even pushed her further into production, leading her to produce her song “Rush,” a milestone in her development as an artist.
“In a lot of ways, it was creatively healing and helped me rebuild my confidence in my own abilities.”
That renewed confidence is an important part of Naylon's story. Her music blends emotional songwriting with electronic and cinematic pop influences, but what makes her work compelling is the care she puts into creating something that feels distinctly her own.
For an artist who began sharing singing videos online at a young age, learning to trust her instincts has taken time.
“You can't let the fear of how people might respond stop you,” she says.
It's a lesson she's carried from those early days on Vine into the music she's making now.
A Garage in Nebraska
Before returning to Los Angeles, Naylon wanted to capture one more moment from her time back home.
She had recently headlined a local show with a group of musicians she'd connected with in Nebraska. Rather than leave that experience behind, she decided to bring everyone together again to record a live performance of “Kiss Me In The Same Way.”
The original vision involved a dirt road surrounded by cornfields. When the logistics proved too difficult, the location changed to something considerably more personal: a garage in Fremont, Nebraska.
With help from friends and family, Naylon gathered rugs, lamps, furniture, and thrifted pieces to transform the space into an intimate performance set.
Alongside musicians John, Jesse, Dominic, and Ryan, she brought the song to life with a full band.
“Recording with a full band was such an incredible experience. It gave the song so much life and energy, and it was exciting to hear how everyone brought their own interpretation to it.”
There's something fitting about the setting. A song inspired by returning to familiar people and places was given another life surrounded by the community she'd found herself leaning on.
“It was such a special experience to create something like this at home, surrounded by my community,” she says.
The finished performance feels like a reminder that meaningful creative work doesn't always require an elaborate production or a conventional studio. Sometimes it starts with a few friends, borrowed furniture, and an idea worth following through on.
The Next Version of Naylon
Now back in Los Angeles, Naylon is turning her attention toward her debut project.
Having worked across different corners of the industry, including songwriting and vocal contributions to other projects, she's developed a deeper appreciation for the creative process. Still, she admits that understanding the business can sometimes make it harder to switch off the analytical side of her brain.
Her latest chapter is about finding the balance.
She's currently exploring a more experimental direction, drawing inspiration from underground hyperpop, electropop, and R&B while continuing to develop the emotional songwriting at the center of her music.
“I've been taking a more experimental approach, both sonically and visually, and pushing myself to explore outside my comfort zone,” she shares.
She's also eager to bring more of her music to the stage, with a Los Angeles performance among her goals for the coming year.
For now, “Kiss Me In The Same Way” captures an important moment in Naylon's journey. It began during an unexpected detour, became a connection to home, and ultimately helped her rediscover the independence that first drew her to making music.
When asked what success looks like at this stage of her career, her answer is refreshingly straightforward.
“It's about showing up every day, continuing to do what I love, and learning to enjoy the process as much as possible.”
For Naylon, that process is only getting more interesting.
