Myles Lloyd Opens a New Chapter With "One Sided"

Finding Clarity

Following the introspective world he built on I'm Still Thinking, the Montreal-born R&B artist returns with a song that feels both familiar and refreshingly clear. While his previous work often sat with uncertainty, "One Sided" feels like the moment after the dust settles—the realization that some relationships aren't as balanced as we desperately want them to be.

Speaking with Everyday Jams, Myles shared that the song wasn't born from one defining conversation, but from "a series of feelings and realizations over time."

"It came from accepting that truth and putting that emotion into something honest."

Writing What Matters

That commitment to honesty has become one of the defining qualities of Myle’s songwriting. Rather than reaching for dramatic moments, he lets the emotion unfold naturally, trusting listeners to meet him where he is.

"I usually know I've said enough when the emotion feels clear without needing to explain every part of the story," he tells us.

That philosophy is woven throughout "One Sided." The production is polished yet understated, blending the warmth of classic soul with contemporary R&B and subtle early-2000s pop influences. Myles says those sounds are always somewhere in the background when he's creating, helping shape music that feels timeless while remaining deeply personal.

The Next Chapter

Although "One Sided" naturally connects to the reflective themes of I'm Still Thinking, Lloyd sees this release as the beginning of something new.

"I think 'One Sided' connects with the reflective side of I'm Still Thinking, but it also feels like a step forward. That project was a lot about processing thoughts and emotions while this song feels more like having clarity after sitting with those feelings for a while. It's the next part of the story."

That sense of clarity becomes even more apparent in one of the song's most impactful lyrics:

"Everything I did for you was all done blindly."

"It's everything for me," Lloyd says. "I don't even see the nice things that I do because I was so deep in. It wasn't until I slowed down and took time to realize that I'm the only one loving this way."

Instead of lingering in resentment, "One Sided" becomes a reflection on recognizing your own worth. It's a song about finally seeing a relationship for what it is—and finding the courage to move forward.

Built On Connection

Even with more than two million monthly Spotify listeners and a rapidly growing audience, Myles says his motivation hasn't changed since the beginning.

"Making music that feels honest and makes someone feel understood is always the mission."

That same intention carries into the visual world surrounding the release. For Myles, the imagery isn't separate from the music—it's another way of telling the story before anyone even presses play.

When asked what continues to excite him after reaching so many career milestones, his answer comes back to connection.

"Nothing compares to hearing that a song helped someone through a moment or made them feel something. Knowing the music can reach people I've never even met is a huge part of why I keep going."

It's easy to understand why listeners continue to gravitate toward his work. Myles doesn't try to overcomplicate emotion or chase bigger moments than the story requires. Instead, he writes with intention, allowing vulnerability to speak for itself.

Moving Forward

By the time "One Sided" reaches its final moments, Lloyd hopes listeners walk away with something more than just another breakup song.

"I hope they realize they're not alone. If they've ever felt like they were giving everything to someone who wasn't giving the same back, I hope this song helps them feel seen and maybe reminds them they deserve better. No matter what, we must move forward in life—so just learn and keep going."

With "One Sided," Myles Lloyd continues to prove why he's become one of modern R&B's most compelling voices. Honest, soulful, and deeply human, the single doesn't just tell the story of heartbreak—it reminds us that clarity often arrives when we finally stop carrying love on our own.
