FREY IS BUILDING HER WORLD — ONE HONEST SONG AT A TIME

There’s something quietly magnetic about Frey. Not in a loud, look-at-me way — but in the way she speaks about her music with intention, as if every choice has already been carefully considered.

When I sat down with the UK artist over Zoom, it didn’t feel like a typical promotional conversation. It felt reflective. Thoughtful. She spoke openly about growth, about anxiety, about the quiet periods in between releases — and about the determination it takes to keep going anyway. There’s a self-awareness to her that feels rare at this stage in an artist’s career.

Frey is in the middle of a transition. After building momentum through singles, she’s now stepping into something bigger — shaping her first full project while preparing to take on larger stages, including an upcoming performance at Gem Fest. It’s a pivotal moment: the space between who she was when she first started posting songs online and who she’s becoming now.

What stands out most isn’t just the music — it’s the clarity. She knows that the songs that resonate most are the ones that feel the most honest. And instead of chasing what might work, she’s choosing to lean further into what feels like her.

And that confidence is beginning to show.

A SOUND ROOTED IN HONESTY — AND HARMONIES

Frey describes her world as glossy but intimate — music that moves with momentum while still feeling soft at its core. Harmonies are non-negotiable. Piano threads through much of her newer material, bringing subtle jazz textures into otherwise modern, beat-driven tracks.

Growing up a massive Jeff Buckley fan, she developed a love for instrumentation that complements the voice rather than competes with it. Even when she leans into something more upbeat — what she jokingly described as a “fun little Charli XCX moment” — there’s always intention behind it.

“I can’t imagine a song without harmonies,” she shared.

That layering — both sonically and emotionally — has become central to her identity. Her writing is descriptive and immersive, crafted so listeners can step fully inside the world she’s building.

“TOGETHER” — A COLLABORATIVE MOMENT ON SCRUZ’S EP

While Frey continues building toward her debut project, she recently joined forces with producer scruz on “Together,” a standout track from his latest EP.

The collaboration unfolded organically during their first session. scruz arrived with an early concept built around the hook, and what followed was a genuine creative exchange. The two bounced off one another in real time — trading ideas, reshaping melodies, refining lyrics — building the track side by side.

Frey has shared how much she loved working with scruz on the record, describing the process as fluid and energizing. Rather than one voice leading, “Together” became a true meeting point: electronic momentum intertwined with emotional nuance. Her harmonies and descriptive writing added depth, while scruz’s production expanded the atmosphere around her — each pushing the other forward.

The result doesn’t feel like a feature — it feels collaborative at its core.

Performing it live for the first time marked a shift. scruz DJ’d. Frey stepped onto the stage. The crowd moved in sync.

“It’s only three or four minutes,” she reflected, “but hearing everyone dancing to something we created together — that felt amazing.”

There’s something powerful about watching a song centered on unity actively create it in real time.

GEM FEST — A NEW CHAPTER

Gem Fest represents more than just another booking.

For Frey, festivals mark growth. She spoke candidly about how stage fright once kept her nearly frozen under the lights. Early performances were defined by nerves and stillness — focusing more on getting through the set than truly living in it.

Now, she’s learning to move. To trust the songs. To bring her energy forward.

“I’ve realized all I can really do is bring my energy and trust the music.”

Gem Fest feels symbolic — a reflection of how far she’s come both professionally and personally.

BUILDING HER FIRST PROJECT

After years of releasing singles, Frey is now working toward her first full project. The focus is cohesion. Authenticity. Writing songs that genuinely resonate with her lived experience rather than chasing what might simply perform well.

“The songs that have been the most authentic to me have connected the most.”

She’s leaning further into piano-driven arrangements, textured harmonies, and descriptive storytelling. The more sessions she does in London, the clearer her artistic identity becomes.

There’s no artificial rush. Just refinement. Momentum. And clarity.

GROWTH, ANXIETY & DOING IT ANYWAY

One of the most striking moments in our conversation was Frey’s honesty about anxiety — about panic attacks, quiet periods, and the mental weight of building something independently.

She’s learned that growth isn’t linear. That quiet seasons don’t mean failure. That success and silence often coexist.

“Nobody is going to do it for you. You just have to hammer it.”

From trusting her instincts in sessions to showing up consistently online, she’s stepping into her artistry with more confidence than ever before.

She understands now that the work isn’t just about the music — it’s about resilience.

Frey isn’t chasing trends. She’s building something cohesive — something intentional and rooted in who she is.

With “Together” featured on scruz’s latest EP, Gem Fest on the horizon, and a debut project in the works, she’s stepping into her next chapter with clarity and conviction.

And if this is what the beginning sounds like, we’re paying attention.

Listen to “Together,” Frey’s collaboration with scruz featured on his latest EP, and keep an eye out for her performance at Gem Fest this season.
