"I tend to write all of my music with a sense of optimism. Breakups can be the most powerful portals for transformation. They shake your world in a way that challenges you to exit your comfort zone and find a new equilibrium. We really do gain something through loss."

"I dated someone who the people I loved could not understand why I was with him. The relationship made me feel anxious and insecure, and a lot of my needs were deemed unreasonable. So when this person left me, the veil of devotion had lifted, and suddenly, I could see it all for what it was. Little by little, I started to feel more powerful, more creative, and so grateful that the thing I was so terrified of had happened."

That emotional honesty gives the single its weight. It's reflective without becoming heavy and empowering without ever feeling forced.

Introducing The Dress Rehearsal

While "Thank You (For Breaking My Heart)" stands confidently on its own, it's also the first glimpse into Emma's debut album, The Dress Rehearsal.

"This song felt like an evolved iteration of my last EP, almost like its more grown up, sophisticated older sister. 'Thank You' is a natural progression towards this next chapter, and such a fun introduction to people who don't know me yet."

"At its core, this is an album about transformation. About honoring the different parts of ourselves, the evolved, the petty, the imperfect. So when people encounter the music or visuals, I want them to feel that sense of invitation. Invitation to show up exactly as you are. To feel seen."

A Record Built Slowly, Intentionally, and With Friends

There's an ease to Emma's music that makes it feel almost effortless, but the world behind it was carefully built over two years.

Many of the songs came together in Mount Washington during the summer of 2024, where long afternoons became creative sessions surrounded by close collaborators, analog instruments, flowers, and conversations that stretched for hours.

She remembers the process vividly.

"We began writing the album in Mount Washington in the summer of 2024. I relished in the meandering drive there every day, windows down, always with a matcha, often with a joint. I wrote the songs in a beautiful tree house tucked into the woods with friends and collaborators I've known for years. Un-rushed, vases of flowers and analog instruments surrounding us, sunshine and self reflection and sitting on the floor for hours talking about the meaning of life."

That atmosphere quietly lives inside the music. The production feels expansive and nostalgic without losing its intimacy.

Saying Exactly What You Mean

Behind the warm melodies is a songwriter committed to telling the truth, even when it's uncomfortable.

Emma says finding the right words proved to be the biggest challenge throughout the album.

"The sonic landscape of this album came so naturally, and the lyrics and poetry were probably the most challenging elements. My co-writers challenged me to tell the truth, to get messy, to never say anything just because it sounded cool. Every word has meaning, and sometimes, that meaning is harsh."

That commitment to honesty gives her writing its emotional pull. Nothing feels overexplained, but nothing feels hidden either.

Building Something That Lasts

After years of songwriting, acting, and collaborating, The Dress Rehearsal represents Emma's biggest creative leap yet.

Self-funding an ambitious debut album wasn't the easiest path, but it became the most meaningful.

"I'm really proud of myself for taking the swing to make this body of work in a world of fast consumption and short attention spans. It was expensive, it took two years, and the desire to make it was born from an inexplicable, totally unreasonable instinct. But the process of making it has given me more ownership over my art, and has unearthed deeper parts of me I have yet to express in my more than decade-long career."

That sense of ownership is evident throughout this new era. Rather than chasing trends, Emma has built a world that feels entirely her own.

Everyday Inspiration

Emma's songwriting doesn't begin in one place. Sometimes it's a conversation. Sometimes it's a film. Sometimes it's simply paying closer attention to the people around her.

"I'm so inspired by the world around me. I find myself writing down something striking a stranger said, secretly recording conversations with my grandparents so I can listen to them back, watching films and mining them for song inspiration. Some songs have images that accompany them, some are purely a vibe. Each one is different, like having different children and watching how they uniquely grow."

It's that curiosity that gives her music its cinematic quality while keeping every lyric deeply personal.
